Tennis sensation Lilli Tagger: A new star in the Viennese sky!
What's going on in Vienna? This week the capital is dominated by tennis. As part of the Alpstar Ladies Open, the 17-year-old East Tyrolean Lilli Tagger thrilled tennis fans with her performance. Tagger, who is currently ranked 393 in the WTA world rankings, won the junior women's competition at the French Open in June and is raising new hopes for young Austrian tennis players. The press reports that the prestigious tournament in Vienna has been upgraded for the first time by tournament director Raimund Stefanits. This includes a shuttle service to the hotel and airport as well as a players lounge, which is intended to offer players more comfort.
In addition, a press conference will be held for the first time in the 19-year history of the tournament. These innovations certainly attract not only spectators, but also media representatives and help to further increase the event's attractiveness.
Lilli Tagger's path to success
Lilli Tagger, who was born in Lienz and started playing tennis in her early childhood at just five years old, has developed rapidly. Her coach, former world-class player Francesca Schiavone, is enthusiastic about Tagger's progress. Tagger herself says that she sees physical and mental development as the key to her success. She plays with a one-handed backhand and finds this a clear advantage in the game. On Wednesday she has planned her first match in Vienna against the Slovenian Dalila Jakupović (currently WTA 192), not before 1 p.m.
After an intensive training block in Milan, she enters the tournament with fresh confidence. In Amstetten she already felt the pressure of the final against Sinja Kraus, which motivated her even more. “It will be exciting to see what is possible for them here in Vienna,” says tournament director Stefanits and has high hopes for Tagger’s breakthrough into the professional scene.
A look at the competition
Smaller professional tournaments like those in Vienna are a valuable opportunity for players like taggers to gain experience and secure important ranking points. Her successes so far give hope for a promising career that is already adorned with various titles, including an ITF title. In her career so far she has a record of 43 wins and 27 defeats in singles.
The current tennis spirit is also exemplary at the Koblenz Junior Open, a tournament that recently took place with 160 participants from different countries. Such events demonstrate the lively youth work and commitment in the tennis world, from which Austrian talent can also benefit. RLP Tennis emphasizes that young tennis players benefit from tournaments in different age groups and should be given even more opportunities in the future.
Austria also has a promising face in Lilli Tagger who is attracting everyone's attention. The tennis world will be looking forward to what this talented youngster can achieve in Vienna, because one thing is certain: there is something on the horizon!
