Big anniversary: 40 years of Back to the Future” celebrated in Vienna!

On October 15, 2025, a very special event took place in the Wiener Stadthalle: the 40th anniversary of the iconic film “Back to the Future”. The first part of this Hollywood blockbuster, which was released in 1985, not only resulted in two successful sequels, but also a crucial place in the hearts of many film fans. The story follows young Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, and his crazy friend Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, as they travel through time in a DeLorean and disrupt the space-time continuum.

The Futurephonic Orchestra, under the direction of the experienced conductor Stefan Geiger, thrilled the audience with a unique musical performance in the evening. Geiger, who has been accompanying film performances for 30 years, not only showed his skills, but also his love for Alan Silvestri's music, which was heard live and synchronized to the film in this special performance. Silvestri's original sheet music became an unforgettable experience for the approximately 65 musicians in the orchestra who came especially from Germany.

An evening full of enjoyment and emotions

The concert offered those in attendance the opportunity to enjoy the film on a large, high-resolution screen while the orchestra played the film's music with full passion. The audience was so enthusiastic about the performance that they gave the orchestra a standing ovation. Geiger described the importance of the music and the intense experience for the audience as a central part of the event.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of around 20 minutes of new music, which was specially composed by Alan Silvestri for this live orchestra event. This provided additional moments of surprise and an even deeper connection between film and music.

A look into the future

After the sold-out concert in the Wiener Stadthalle, the Futurephonic Orchestra will enchant the audience once again on October 15th in the TipsArena in Linz. The success of the first performance gives hope for another musical experience. It remains exciting to see how Silvestri's new music will reach the hearts of fans there too.

“Back to the Future” remains not only a timeless film classic, but also an experience that connects generations. The evening in the town hall once again showed how film and music can go hand in hand to awaken emotions and create memories. The creators and participants can be proud of this special evening, which will certainly be remembered by many for a long time.
