Brutal park attacks in Vienna: Teen gangs terrorize young people!
A shocking incident occurred on August 20th in Vogelweidpark in Vienna-Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. An 18-year-old was brutally attacked there by a group of five young men. The teenagers attacked the victim with punches and chokes, which resulted in serious injuries that required immediate hospitalization. The investigators from the Fünfhaus criminal department took up the matter the following day and quickly identified the first suspect - a 15-year-old Romanian - who was taken into custody on the instructions of the Vienna public prosecutor's office.
However, the teenager refused to give a statement about his accomplices. In the course of further investigations, which also included social networks, two more suspects were caught: a 16-year-old Russian and another 15-year-old Romanian. During subsequent house searches in Vienna, several electronic devices, mainly cell phones, were seized. Meanwhile, the investigating authorities are still looking for two other people suspected of being involved and are checking whether the group may be responsible for further, as yet unsolved, violent crimes. Cosmo reports that the seriousness of the incidents is becoming increasingly concerning.
Attacks in the parks – not an isolated case
The frightening incidents in Vienna's parks don't stop. On the same evening, a similar incident was reported by six female teenagers aged 13 to 18 in another district, namely Döbling. This group allegedly beat and kicked two other girls, robbing them of a cell phone and a laptop. All of the new suspects, except for the 13-year-old, were taken into custody by the police. The stolen items were quickly recovered in the “In der Crimea” park.
All those involved, both perpetrators and victims, have a Somali migration background and have both Somali and Dutch citizenship. When asked about the motive, the police still have no clear answers. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, West branch, has started further investigations and will try to shed light on the matter. The incident once again highlights how important security is in our parks and how quickly violence can spread. Pulse24 informs about the concerns that such attacks bring with them.
It remains to be hoped that the investigations in both cases will quickly lead to clarity and future attacks can be avoided. Society is required to deal with these problems and develop appropriate preventative measures.
