Students from Penzing elementary school run for children in need - 500 euros collected!
In Penzing, the sports field today was dedicated to charitable support. Pupils from Penzing primary school ran laps under the motto “Running for a good cause” to collect donations for the emergency card index. Supported by committed parents who decided in advance how much money they would donate per lap, over 500 euros were raised. The children's high level of motivation already impressed the acting headmaster Andrea Bode, who praised the community spirit.
The Kartei der Not, an aid organization run by the Pressedruck media group and the Allgäuer Zeitungsverlag, specifically supports people in difficult life situations. Managing director Oliver Jaschek informed the children about the important work of the organization, which is not only active in Penzing but also in the surrounding area. The funds raised are used to help children, young people and families who need support.
Aid projects from the card index of need
Last year, the emergency register recorded a remarkable 6 million euros in donations, which were paid out particularly after the devastating floods in the Augsburg region in June. Since its founding 60 years ago, the organization has donated a total of 53 million euros, which is primarily due to generous donations from private individuals, initiatives and associations.
A central aid project of the Kartei der Not is the Ellinor-Holland-Haus in Augsburg, which offers families in crisis situations a new home for up to three years. Currently 80 people live there, including 30 children. For future residents, another house will be built on an adjacent property to provide accommodation for people with financial difficulties.
Conditions of need and support options
As the founder of the Card Index of Distress, Ellinor Holland, emphasizes, distress can affect anyone. Life-changing events such as accidents or unemployment often leave people in need of help - especially single mothers, who often have to bear the burdens of work, parenting and care. They are increasingly receiving support from non-profit organizations, which are an important part of the social system.
The demand for institutions providing assistance has increased due to social changes. Charities are there to help, especially in emergencies, be it due to illness, poverty or hunger. Figures show that around 5 billion euros in private monetary donations were made in Germany in 2023, with the most common donation purpose being humanitarian aid. More and more people are recognizing the need to stand up for their fellow human beings, and the distress card plays a crucial role in this. This is reflected not only in the active participation in events such as the school sports day in Penzing, but also in the ongoing support of people in need in the region.
Like the reporting from Card file of distress shows, the aid organization does valuable work that is recognized and supported by the population. Thanks to the willingness to donate, which forms the basis for projects in the long term, the card index of need can continue to count on local support in the future. If you look at the current need for assistance and the increasing number of people in need, it becomes clear: the need for such initiatives cannot be overestimated.
