Arnautović return to Rapid: Will the change take place before the training camp?

Football fever in Vienna is reaching a new peak: Marko Arnautović's return to SK Rapid seems imminent. According to Onefootball, the transfer negotiations have progressed to such an extent that Rapid coach Peter Stöger expects a clear decision before the upcoming training camp on Saturday. Stöger makes it clear that there must be clarity by then if we do not want to jeopardize preparations for the coming season.

In recent weeks, the topic of Arnautović has occupied the minds of club officials, the media and fans. The 36-year-old Austrian record player was even seen at the Rapid Stadium this week, fueling rumors of an imminent move. MeinBezirk reports that Arnautović has not extended his contract with Inter Milan and is therefore considered available. An unnamed member of the Executive Board estimates the chances of a deal to be an impressive 90 percent.

The sporting benefits

Stöger emphasizes that a potential signing of Arnautović is not just about a “marketing coup”, but also about the player’s sporting abilities. He is expected to be able to score between 15 and 20 goals per season when fit. That could be crucial for Rapid, especially given their medium and long-term ambitions that go beyond a midfield spot.

Of course, the economic side also plays a role. The transfer would cost a salary of three million euros: one million from Rapid themselves, one million expected from increased ticket and merchandise interest, and the rest could be covered by sponsors. Internal regulations of the Bundesliga allow one player per team to wear their own sponsor on their chest, which opens up additional financial flexibility.

Historical context

Arnautović's return would be extremely symbolic, as it has already been 23 years since he played in the Rapid youth team. The player himself and the club have not yet made any official statements regarding the latest reports. However, Stöger is optimistic that despite his previous contact with Arnautović - which has not yet taken place directly - the negotiations will move forward.

The energy around the club is described as “incredible in both directions”, showing how desperate everyone involved is for an agreement. How the situation will develop further remains to be seen. One thing is certain, however: a move from Arnautović to Rapid would not only strengthen the team, but also shake up the entire league. The only question that remains is: Will everything be sorted out in time for the training camp?
