Family festival at the ADAC: The open day in Penzing inspires everyone!

On July 12, 2025, the ADAC opened its doors in the mobility test center at Penzing Air Base and visitors were able to experience an exciting open day in bright sunshine. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. there was plenty on offer for young and old, and admission was of course free. Dr. Dieter Nirschl, the ADAC board member, and Dr. Reinhard Kolke, head of technology, was more than satisfied with the great interest.

On a huge area totaling 15 hectares of campus and 80 hectares of test fields, 28 information and demo stands were set up, giving a real insight into the future of mobility. Visitors were able to find out about topics such as child seats, electric cars and legal tuning, while the little guests experienced a bouncy castle, a bobby car course and a scavenger hunt.

Attractions and lectures

Special highlights of the event were numerous demonstrations, including spectacular rescue operations by the Penzing fire department after traffic accidents. A rollover simulator also attracted visitors. The correct tuning could be admired during a demonstration on the BMW M2 police car. Historic ADAC vehicles from various decades rounded off the picture. The ADAC band “Yellow Tones” also provided musical entertainment.

The lectures by, among others, Michael Willberg on electromobility and Sebastian Stahl, a former racing driver and CUPRA brand ambassador, were very well received. Here, visitors were able to learn a lot about the current development and challenges of electromobility, a topic that is given additional impetus by the newly opened climate chamber for electromobility tests in the ADAC Technology Center in Landsberg am Lech ADAC reported.

Mobility test center

The test center in Penzing, which has become a central point for research and testing in mobility since it opened in 2022, offers optimal conditions for this. Here, companies and universities can realize innovative projects in a unique test environment. Among other things, modules for consumer protection, assistance systems and autonomous driving are being developed. An expansion with new buildings and test modules is even planned from 2026. The ADAC has set itself the task of becoming an innovation location for people and the region and is actively committed to consumer protection and progress in vehicle technology.

Anyone interested is invited to explore the possibilities and offers of the test center. Numerous activities – from tuning and electric cars to child safety advice and culinary delights – ensure that there is something for everyone to experience. The event impressively demonstrated that the future of mobility is an exciting topic that excites and inspires many.

An exciting day like this shows that the ADAC, with its many years of experience, which began in the Landsberg district in 1997, remains a driving force in the development of new mobility solutions. Here we are actively working on the topics that will significantly shape the future of transportation.
