Your idea for the climate: Vienna is looking for innovative solutions!
A call for participation: The Vienna climate team has asked the population to contribute their ideas for a better climate. Proposals on topics such as renewable energies, circular economy, climate-friendly mobility and climate-fit urban space can be submitted until October 10th. The aim is to make the Josefstadt and Penzing districts greener, more sustainable and more livable. Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky from the SPÖ and the two district leaders Martin Fabisch (The Greens) and Michaela Schüchner (SPÖ) invite all Viennese to take part in this process with their creative ideas, as [Heute] reports.
The initiative already enjoys the support of well-known personalities, including the singer Julian Le Play and the caretaker Rosi Zapula. “There’s something going on!” says Czernohorszky and encourages participation. In addition, large climate team forums are to take place on October 1st in Penzing and on October 8th in Josefstadt, where district leaders, city councilors and experts will discuss the submitted proposals.
Circular economy in focus
Circular economy plays a central role in the climate debate. According to data from the Federal Environment Agency, a current study shows that the reduction potential through circular economy in the EU is enormous. A well-established waste management system could increase from 3.5 million tons of CO2 equivalents to around 30 million by 2030. This progress is possible if the landfilling of untreated municipal waste is completely stopped. This shows how important it is to fully exploit the potential of the waste sector, as [Federal Environment Agency] informs.
The circular economy focuses on maximizing resource use and minimizing waste. Instead of a linear model of “use and dispose”, the circular economy offers innovative approaches to the continuous use of resources. Among other things, concepts are being developed for the energetic use of residual materials and the reuse of water, as can be read on the [Fraunhofer] website.
Community and responsibility
Close cooperation with local initiatives and associations is intended to ensure that various target groups, including seniors and young people, are reached. The climate team is convinced that every single contribution counts to combat climate change and improve the quality of life in Vienna. As Czernohorszky emphasizes, it is more important than ever to think and act together along sustainable paths.
If you take a look into the future, it becomes clear that the potential inherent in the circular economy is crucial for advancing climate protection. With the call for ideas in Josefstadt and Penzing, the city of Vienna wants to actively involve citizens and at the same time create awareness of the importance of a sustainable lifestyle.
