But what exactly is behind the NIS 2 directive? The EU adopted this important legal framework on December 14, 2022, which is intended to improve existing security measures in Europe. The goal? A uniform and high level of cybersecurity, which is achieved through the Fraunhofer IESE is described in detail. With expanded applicability to more sectors and strict security requirements, the NIS 2 directive also modulates the requirements for companies in Austria, which are to be implemented by March 2025.

These include, among other things, reporting obligations within 24 hours of security incidents and possible sanctions for violations of up to 10 million euros or 2% of global annual turnover.
