Father and musician: René Mühlberger presents his cheerful album Sundrops!”
On May 30, 2025, Viennese guitarist René Mühlberger, better known by the project name Pressyes, released his third studio album entitled “Sundrops!”. This new work, created in his apartment in Vienna, reflects not only his creative journey, but also the changes that fatherhood brings with it. Mühlberger, who was previously known as the leader of the band Velojet and as a guitarist in Clueso, uses his experiences as a family man in his current album while remaining musically optimistic. Loud The press, the album brings a sunny feel and a hippie vibe with memories of past travels.
“Sundrops!” is not just a musical product, but a journey through the southern hemisphere, both real and imagined. Mühlberger has managed to create a holiday atmosphere, even without going on a long trip. Many of the creative processes took place in the evenings or during his three-year-old daughter's nap. It helped him that his music used the melancholy of the end of summer in the song “Summer Is Gone” and in other pieces he described the longing for California and personal experiences with his daughter. “Being a father has changed my perspective on music and songwriting a lot,” explains Mühlberger in an interview with crown.
A look behind the scenes
The album production was an exciting process that involved many dynamics. Mühlberger created around 30 to 40 demos and included most of them in “First Takes”. He was supported by his wife Marlene Lacherstorfer on bass and Ryan Thomas Carpenter, who was responsible for the keyboard arrangements. In terms of musical influences, he combines sounds that are reminiscent of the Beatles and John Lennon, and also reflects on the experiences that his father as a bandmaster gave him.
The album's lyrics are extremely positive, but also address heartbreak and insecurities. An emotional highlight is a song about his parents' car accident while he was still in his mother's womb. “Sundrops!” has already found great popularity in France, Spain and California and has been recommended as ideal for times of vitamin D deficiency.
Events and insights into the importance of cultural education
For Mühlberger it is essential to balance family life and music. Music has great meaning not only for him personally, but also in the context of family education. Studies show that cultural participation is particularly encouraged by parents, who play a central role in their children's cultural education process. According to a survey conducted as part of cultural education, 47% of parents considered cultural activities to be important for their children's development. This supports the assumption that Mühlberger's creative work creates an important environment in which cultural education can flourish, not only for himself but also for his daughter.
On August 2nd, Mühlberger will give a concert in Rohrendorf near Krems, followed by an appearance at the Konzerthaus Vienna on September 30th. These opportunities offer fans the opportunity to experience the new album live and recharge with the positive energy it conveys.
