Ottakringer Zapfmeisterei: New beer paradise opened in the heart of Vienna!
Yesterday a new hotspot for beer lovers and connoisseurs was officially opened in Vienna: The Ottakringer Zapfmeisterei in the Bermuda Bräu. This new location at Rabensteig 6 should not only stand for fresh, unpasteurized beer, but also offer a place for urban pub culture and hospitality. Managing director Markus Raunig emphasized during the opening ceremony that this project was a sign of the creative development of beer culture in Vienna. The tapping workshop was implemented in close collaboration with Gabi and Robert Huth, who are the creative minds behind this project. The event was attended by a variety of personalities, including cathedral priest Toni Faber and the successful actor couple Martina and Karl Hohenlohe.
The tap shop has a lot to offer: In addition to two types of unpasteurized tank beer from 500 liter copper tanks, there are also at least four other types of draft beer, some of which come from the popular craft beer scene. Tobias Frank, the managing director for technology and master brewer, emphasized the quality of this variety of beer and promised his guests an unforgettable taste experience. The gastronomic offering ranges from classic Viennese cuisine to seasonal specialties and sweet delicacies that have something for every palate.
Viennese beer culture on the rise
Vienna enjoys an excellent reputation for its diverse beer culture, which has historical roots and combines traditional brewing art with modern trends. In the Middle Ages, the city was an important center of beer production in the Habsburg Empire, and traditional breweries such as the Ottakringer Brewery, which was founded in 1837, still shape the Viennese beer landscape today. The classic Viennese lager, also known as Wiener Märzen, is a light, malty beer valued for its balanced taste.
In recent years, a lively craft beer scene has also established itself in Vienna. Numerous small and microbreweries are keen to experiment and integrate a wide variety of ingredients and innovative brewing techniques into their products. Events such as beer festivals and tastings not only promote exchange among beer lovers, but also show the diversity of Vienna's gastronomy scene - from traditional pubs to modern beer bars.
Sustainability and community
An important aspect of Viennese beer culture is the growing importance of sustainability and regionality. More and more breweries are relying on local raw materials and fair working conditions. Viennese beer culture is therefore a lively interplay of tradition and innovation that promotes community. Events like the Ottakringer Seidl Hiking Days are just one of the many examples that show how present and active beer culture is in Vienna.
The opening of the Ottakringer Zapfmeisterei not only marks a further step in the development of Vienna's beer landscape, but also sets a new benchmark for urban hospitality and creativity. In this sense, something has really started to happen here - and it remains to be seen how this hotspot in the Viennese gastronomy scene will develop.
