Happyland”: Evi Romen talks about music and longing for home!

On July 28th in Vienna Filmhaus Spittelberg the film “Happyland” by the talented director Evi Romen was shown. This film screening is part of the monthly film series of the Austrian Director’s Association (ADA). From 8:15 p.m., visitors can immerse themselves in the world of film and take part in the subsequent panel discussion with a colleague from the director.

“Happyland” tells the touching story of Helen, a former musician who returns to her hometown of Klosterneuburg. There she meets Joe, a climbing instructor who not only stirs up her past, but also puts her longings to the test. The film combines elements of a road movie with the charm of a local film and a musical narrative. With an ensemble that includes Robert Stadlober, Michaela Rosen and Alicia Edelweiss, the audience is taken on an emotional journey. The film was mainly shot in Klosterneuburg and Vienna, which gives an authentic impression of the region.

Insight into the protagonist's life

Returning to "Happyland", her mother's sports center, becomes a challenge for Helen as she has to deal with her past and the ghosts of her youth. Her relationship with her mother, who is currently on treatment, shows the inner conflict and pressure that weighs on her. Topics such as music, homecoming and getting older are dealt with in an impressive way in this almost 90-minute film.

“Happyland” was produced with great attention to detail and combines a nouvelle vague and rock’n’roll aesthetic. The soundtrack includes several songs by Andrea Wenzl and a score by Dorit Chrysler. Guest appearances by well-known artists such as Wolfgang Schloegl and Oliver Welter can also be seen in the film. Romen’s musicality and artistic vision can be felt in every scene.

The relevance in the context of the Women's Film Days

The upcoming event fits seamlessly into the tradition of Women's Film Days Since its founding in Vienna in 2004, it has been drawing attention to the social and women's political relevance of women as filmmakers. This platform makes it possible to show a variety of international productions that address the lives and perspectives of women. “Happyland” also fits this concept by creating a strong portrait of women while at the same time shedding light on the challenges and desires in today’s society.

Tickets for the event on July 28th are available for 8.10 euros on the website Filmhouse available. Film fans and students are warmly invited to enjoy this exciting film and then talk to the filmmakers afterwards. A visit that is guaranteed to pay off!
