Fashion highlight in the new building: fashion shows & upcycling countdown!
In a few days, on Saturday, September 20th, the event series “Meet the Makers – Fashion & Style” will take place in Neubau, Vienna. From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. the combination of fashion shows, pop-ups and other exciting activities can be experienced between Kirchen-, Siebenstern- and Lindengasse. This event not only brings a breath of fresh air to the fashion scene, but also provides platforms for creative minds and local designers.
A highlight are the two open-air fashion shows that take place at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Kirchengasse near Siebensternplatz. The shows, curated by Wolfgang Reichl, present labels such as Disaster Clothing, Igor Zeus and Wienerkleid, all of which offer modern and urban fashion.
A feast for the senses
Physical well-being is also taken care of: In the “J. Hornig Coffee Bar” at Siebensterngasse 29, visitors can relax with a cup of coffee. There is also a very special pop-up store by Anne Hermine, where handmade bags made from old plastic bags and coffee packaging are presented. This eco-friendly upcycling idea is a reminder of how important sustainability is in fashion.
Another exciting offer for families is the opportunity to make garlands with children from leftover fabric at “Soova” in Lindengasse 31-33. Creative upcycling can be experienced in a very practical way here. And in the “Handschuh am Neubau” pop-up, elegant gloves can be admired, which are exhibited between porcelain and kitchen utensils in the Niessner dish at Kirchengasse 9a.
Sustainability in the spotlight
The exhibition of the work of 13 designers from Vienna and Lower Austria, all of whom work in upcycling fashion, confirmed the trend towards sustainable fashion. A short film exploring the magic of upcycling fashion opened the event. The different looks ranged from colorful tailored dresses to all-denim outfits, with models of all ages, sizes and genders walking the runway.
After the show, the unique pieces could be purchased in the MQ Pop-Up Store, with all proceeds going to the Gruft, the Caritas homeless facility. This shows that fashion and community spirit can go hand in hand.
Another notable event during Vienna Fashion Week was “Fashion Reloaded” on September 10th. Here, seniors showed creative upcycling creations and confidently walked the catwalk. Under the leadership of Madlena Komitova and Irena Reichel, a strong statement was made against fast fashion, supported by renowned labels such as Pitour and Sabine Karner, who provided materials.
The upcoming events in the new building are not only a celebration of fashion, but also a call for creativity and sustainability - a successful mix of art, culture and social responsibility. If you're interested in fashion and want to make a difference at the same time, don't miss this!
