An exciting television experience awaits those interested in culture today, June 29, 2025. In the program “Museum Check with Markus Brock,” which is airing today at 6:30 p.m 3sat is broadcast, everything revolves around the Vienna Museum and its diverse treasures. The Wien Museum, located on Karlsplatz, has developed into one of the most exciting cultural locations in Vienna since it reopened in December 2023. The listed building from 1959 shines in new splendor after extensive renovation work and now offers an impressive exhibition area of around 12,000 square meters. A special highlight in the collection is Gustav Klimt's portrait "Emilie Flöge" from 1902, which is one of the masterpieces on display in the museum.
Insight into the permanent exhibition
The newly designed permanent exhibition, entitled "Vienna. My History", offers exciting insights into the development of the city over the centuries. Topics such as everyday life in Vienna, the Viennese waltz and the history of the women's movement are presented clearly. Easy-to-use exhibits make it easy to understand how complex life was in Vienna throughout the different eras.
Other highlights include the impressive 1.7-ton whale figure “Poldi” from the famous Prater inn “Zum Walfisch”, which can be admired in the central main hall of the museum. There is also a five meter high model of the impressive St. Stephen's Cathedral, which is an eye-catcher.
Special exhibitions in focus
The special exhibition “Controlled Freedom: The Allies in Vienna” is currently running and can be visited until September 7, 2025. This show focuses on cultural life in Vienna after the Second World War and highlights the impact that the Allied occupying forces had on the city.
But the Vienna Museum is not the only focus of the program. That tooPrater Museum, which opened its doors in March 2023, is introduced. Here visitors can find out more about the 250-year history of the Wurstelprater. Historical objects, from Punch and Judy figures to early slot machines, tell the colorful history of Vienna's most famous amusement park.
The program not only offers an exciting insight into the exhibitions, but also a conversation with Caroline Peters. The actress and native of Mainz, who has been working at Vienna's Burgtheater since 2004, made a name for herself through her role in the crime series “Murder with a View”. She also published her debut novel “Another Life” in 2024, inspired by her mother.
