Vienna Meidling shines after modernization: top marks from passengers!

The Vienna Meidling train station sets new standards in passenger service quality. Around 85,000 travelers use this important transport hub every day, making the train station one of the most central in Austria. ÖBB-Immobilienmanagement GmbH has carried out extensive modernizations in recent years to make staying at this important train station much more pleasant.

The modernization, which has been underway since 2022, focuses on several key areas. This includes attractive waiting areas, increased cleanliness and clear information for passengers. A special customer satisfaction survey already shows that users are reacting to the new Meidling station with grades ranging from “very good” to “good”. Over 11,000 opinions were collected for the study, giving ÖBB a comprehensive overview of the wishes and needs of its passengers.

The innovations in detail

The projects carried out include the renovation of the sanitary facilities, which now also offer barrier-free and easy-care options. In the revised station hall there is a new waiting room with comfortable seating and modern departure monitors. Passage West also underwent a makeover, this time with a special work of art – “The Lost Garden” by Christian Kosmas Mayer. This remarkable work of art extends over 300 m² and creates a cultural accent in the station atmosphere.

The lighting throughout the station was also modernized. Energy-efficient LED lights not only provide better visibility, but also increase safety in busy areas. In addition, new digital information systems are in use that provide real-time information about departure times.

Positive feedback and outlook

District leader Wilfried Zankl is enthusiastic about the extensive changes and the new artwork that underlines the station's identity. The redesign aims to create a better wayfinding system and provide travelers with a sense of security and comfort.

Modernized in an overarching context German railway also a large number of train stations in Germany, with the aim of offering universal quality standards and a high level of comfort. These developments show how important it is to continually improve the infrastructure and adapt it to the needs of travelers.

With all of these measures and the positive feedback collected, Vienna Meidling train station will not only become a place for travel, but also a cultural and social meeting place that reflects the history of Vienna and at the same time looks to the future.
