Two serious traffic accidents: Marly and Guin in shock!

On July 7, 2025, two notable traffic accidents occurred in Fribourg, Switzerland, involving both pedestrians and several drivers. These incidents once again underline the importance of road safety on Switzerland's roads.

The first accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in Marly. A 74-year-old driver collided with an 83-year-old pedestrian who was about to cross the zebra crossing. The elderly woman was injured in this collision and had to be taken to hospital for medical treatment. Due to the necessary measures, the Route de la Gruyère was closed for around two hours. The police are now investigating to clarify the exact causes of the accident, reports Le Matin.

Accident in Guin

In the early afternoon of the same day, another accident occurred in Guin. Three drivers were involved: a 23-year-old, a 66-year-old and a 19-year-old. The younger driver apparently crossed into the oncoming lane, resulting in a collision with the 66-year-old driver who was traveling in the opposite direction. As a result, the 23-year-old's vehicle crashed into the 19-year-old's car. Both cars ended up in an adjacent field, while the 66-year-old's vehicle blocked the road. Fortunately, everyone involved was able to seek medical checks on their own, meaning no further injuries were reported. The road was closed for about 3.5 hours while police investigated the cause of the accident Le Matin.

Road safety in focus

Current events are shining a spotlight on road safety in Switzerland. Loud Statista Switzerland was one of the safest countries for road users in 2021. Nevertheless, there were around 22,100 people involved in road traffic accidents in 2022, which represents an increase compared to previous years. What is particularly alarming is the fact that excessive speed and alcohol have also led to serious injuries or even deaths in other cases.

The safest roads are an important goal and authorities are continually working to reduce the number of road accidents. Using the traffic accident data, which is anonymized and localized, you can react specifically to accident hotspots. This data comes from the MISTRA VUGIS application, which is used by the police to document accidents, such as opendata.swiss revealed.

The recent accidents in Marly and Guin are a sobering example of the need to exercise caution every time we step on the road. It remains to be hoped that the investigations will quickly bring clarity and that such incidents can be prevented as far as possible in the future.
