Fresh greenery will continue in Mariahilf in the coming weeks. A large-scale greening project is taking shape. Not only will new green spaces be created on three streets, but numerous plants and trees will also be planted. The goal? More nature and a higher quality of stay for residents and visitors. The total area available for greening is around 620 square meters. What is particularly pleasing is that the planting of the trees has already been completed. The new green residents include various types of linden trees, bubble column trees and an elm. Stumpergasse will be upgraded with ten new trees.
Versatile plants for year-round blooming
The selection of plants was not made at random. When selecting, attention was paid to diversity and flowering duration. The planned plant species include hibiscus, lilacs, ball leeks, crocuses, tulips, lilies and squill. In spring, purple and yellow flowers will bloom, while in summer, plants such as girl's eye and evening primrose create a colorful scene. Even in autumn it will remain colorful thanks to grasses and asters.
Julia Lessacher, the SPÖ's deputy district leader, praised the committed work of the city gardeners. “Thank you to everyone who is helping out!” she said. The district administration also has a request for the population: they should take into account the newly created beds, which have to be watered under a layer of gravel.
