300 years of Mariahilfberg: Festive cheers for the believers!
July 1, 2025 marks the 300th anniversary of a very special event: the transfer of the miraculous image to the Mariahilfberg Church in Neumarkt. It is an occasion that invites not only believers but also everyone interested to take part in the festive events on the Mariahilfberg, the so-called “Holy Mountain”. As [nn.de](https://www.nn.de/region/neumarkt/300-jahre-mariahilf-neumarkts-gesundheiten-berg- Feiert-geschichtstrachtiges-jubilaum-1.14743091) reports, the celebrations await a very special highlight: the world premiere of the pilgrimage song “Maria mit dem Kinde Kind”, composed by Father Martin Villagrán.
To celebrate the day, the faithful gather at 6 p.m. in the original chapel for the traditional rosary. An impressive procession will carry a copy of the miraculous image to the pilgrimage church. The miraculous image is ceremoniously unveiled on the altar while rose petals fall from the church roof - a sight that further underlines the spirituality of the place.
Festive highlights and musical accompaniment
The pontifical mass is celebrated by the former Archbishop of Bamberg Ludwig Schick. During the service, vestments for all Neumarkt parishes and for the future Bishop of Eichstätt will also be blessed. The musical accompaniment is provided by the Werkvolkkapelle, which creates the festive setting together with Johannes Hofmann on the organ. Following the religious celebrations, secular events take place in the garden behind the church.
The Mariahilfberg has a long history as a place of pilgrimage, dating back to the construction of the first Way of the Cross. As mariahilfberg-neumarkt.de explains, numerous religious communities, including Capuchins, Carmelites and Redemptorists, have shaped the character of the place. Many people visit this sanctuary to personally pray and seek grace from God. Visitors have the option of arriving on foot via the Stations of the Cross or arriving comfortably by car, with parking available nearby.
New impulses for the future
A spiritual center will also be opening this year, which will offer events specifically designed for families and youth, as well as retreats and pilgrimages. The aim is to strengthen the Mariahilfberg as a source of spiritual life for people. A film about the pilgrimage site produced by Hans Heim will also be presented and will explain the history and significance of this special place.
The 300th anniversary celebrations promise not only an impressive date in the history of the Mariahilfberg, but also an enrichment for the local communities that come together here to live their faith.
