Manprit Sarkaria returns: The superstar is back at Austria Vienna!

Today there is big news from sport: Manprit Sarkaria, the talented striker with roots in Vienna, is back at Austria Vienna. The 28-year-old's return, which is being celebrated as an emotional transfer coup, brings a breath of fresh air into the ranks of the Violets. In an interview, Sarkaria expressed his joy at playing again in his homeland and at his training club. "I'm really happy about returning. It feels like coming home," he emphasizes.

Sarkarias has come more and more into the focus of the football world in recent years. His path to this point has been more than impressive. His career began at Donaufeld before moving to the Austria Vienna academy in 2013. There his skills increased noticeably: in his first season, the U18s reached third place in the ÖFB youth league and in 2014 he became runner-up with the academy.

From the academy to the Bundesliga

He made his Bundesliga debut in a thrilling Vienna derby in 2017. As a result, he played a total of 78 competitive games for Austria by the summer of 2021 and scored 14 goals. He then went to SK Sturm Graz, where he continuously established himself as a top performer. With Sturm he won the ÖFB Cup in 2023 and crowned his achievements with a brace in the final against SK Rapid. But the 2023/24 season was also characterized by success: Sarkaria and Sturm Graz won the double.

In January 2025 he moved to China to Shenzhen Peng City. Here he was able to score two goals and assist two in 15 competitive games - a solid record, even if his contract was dated until 2026. But his love for his old club didn't let him go. The urge to return to Austria became stronger and stronger.

The return and the reactions

Talks about his return to Austria Vienna have intensified in recent weeks. FAK sports director Jürgen Werner confirmed this in the “Viola Podcast” and emphasized: “Manprit has given us a lot and brings additional qualities.” In fact, Sarkaria has recorded 36 goals and 28 assists in 139 Bundesliga appearances, which he made for both Austria and Sturm. The fans can look forward to a comeback of a player who has long been part of the Austria family.

With this return, another important player will be added to the series of additions to Austria Vienna. The last few weeks have already seen the signings of Jacob Rasmussen (Bröndby IF) and Sota Kitano (Cerezo Osaka), and fans can be excited to see what the next period will bring.

Those responsible at Austria have managed to bring back a real crowd favorite and arouse curiosity about the challenges ahead. “I want to build on previous successes,” says Sarkaria optimistically. They definitely had a good hand, because the player's emotions and connection to the club also give hope for great things.

FK-Austria reports that Sarkaria is set for an exciting comeback, while Ligaportal the Details shed light on the negotiations and viewed the return as an important step for Austria. And 90minuten provides current transfer information about the previous additions and departures from the league.
