SC Siebenhirten: Finally champions after 50 years – Captain Hauser is lucky!

The Siebenhirten sports club reached a historic milestone on Sunday. After more than 50 years without a championship title, the SC Siebenhirten footballers are crowned champions of the 1st Class East and are thus promoted to the next higher league. Captain Clemens Hauser, who has played for the club for eight years and led the team to this success, describes the feeling as “unbelievable.” The joy of the title is even greater because the team had no idea at the beginning of the season what a historic moment was about to happen, which makes the whole thing even better, as Hauser emphasizes. Things were particularly euphoric in the second half of the season, when long-time officials and companions came together to celebrate the recovery. According to Ligaportal, a key moment was the win in the first game of the season against Gumpoldskirchen, which gave the team the necessary motivation.

Team friendship plays a central role in the philosophy of SC Siebenhirten. Hauser emphasizes that the social bonds within the team have a special meaning for him. “Now we can do it,” was the thought that was in the minds of the players two rounds before the end after the decisive win against Achau. The team has clearly defined goals for the coming season in the 1st Class East. The first priority is to maintain the league, although the team firmly believes in its quality. However, challenges such as increasing the speed of play and dealing with setbacks must be overcome.

The history of SC Siebenhirten

SC Siebenhirten was founded on March 22, 1919 by Rudolf Edlinger after young players had played “wild football” during the First World War. The club's history began on March 29, 1919, and shortly afterwards the founding party took place in the Seitr Inn. The club, originally called the “Siebenhirten Movement Football Club”, has since celebrated some great successes, including championships in various leagues, such as the title in the 1st regional league of Lower Austria in the 1951/52 season. One of the greatest successes was participation in the ÖFB Cup semi-final against Austria Vienna in 1949. These milestones are well documented on the club's official website - more on this at Sportclub Siebenhirten.

A look at amateur football

These successes are no coincidence, as amateur clubs like SC Siebenhirten are subject to constant change. A current article in the magazine “Football and Society” addresses the influence of professional structures and changes in amateur football. The challenges range from the need to expand sports facilities to the changes that have occurred since the 1990s. Amateur clubs have increasingly addressed issues of social entrepreneurship and symbolic activism to maintain their relevance in an increasingly professional football world. The legitimation of these processes of change is also considered, as explained in the Budrich article.

With the current championship title, a long-held dream has come true for SC Siebenhirten. The club is optimistic about the next season and not only wants to survive in the new league, but also wants to continue to cultivate and promote the diverse community and friendship among its players.
