Vienna is becoming greener: Six rental shops promote borrowing instead of buying!

In Vienna there will soon be even more opportunities to conserve resources and live the motto “borrow instead of buy”. The Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*) has expanded the successful rental shop project that was launched in Leopoldstadt in 2024. Viennese can now borrow various items free of charge at five new locations. From tools to sports equipment – the range is diverse and offers good business for anyone who wants to act sustainably. This initiative supports the city's Smart Climate City strategy and promotes resource-saving actions in everyday life.

The new rental shops will complement the existing offering in Leopoldstadt and are available in several parts of the city. After registering once with a photo ID at the GB* district office, users can conveniently select from a PDF catalog, both online and in printed form. The loan period is one week, an extension is possible by arrangement. The individual locations are:

The expansion of the rental shop portfolio is a resounding success and shows how well sustainable concepts are being accepted in the city. Like the powerful navigation and functionality of Google Maps, which makes it easier to find the new locations quickly and effectively, the rental shops are becoming a central part of the Viennese lifestyle.

For anyone who is often on the move, Google Maps not only offers live traffic data and various route options, but now also helps to quickly locate the nearest rental shops. Other useful features, such as the ability to pre-check the visitor frequency of a location or discover local activities, make the app a perfect companion to make borrowing items even easier. Over 250 million companies and locations are included in the service, so that the Viennese population always has up-to-date access to relevant information.

So if you're interested in living more sustainably and taking advantage of the new rental shops, don't hesitate to sign up and bike or walk around the city to pick up your next free rentals. The City of Vienna's commitment to sustainable development is clearly noticeable and obviously a step in the right direction.
