Sustainable living in the Third: The new Village in the Third is exciting!
A lot is happening in Vienna's third district: the construction of the impressive residential project “Village in the Third” is taking shape. With an area of over 11 hectares, a lively residential area will be created here in the coming years, comprising around 2,000 apartments of different sizes. The whole thing is being developed by ARE Austrian Real Estate in close cooperation with the City of Vienna and wohnfonds_wien. The focus is also on sustainable orientation and improving quality of life, which makes the project particularly attractive. According to Heute, “Baufeld 13” will have modern architecture and 143 condominiums between 45 and 110 m² offer, supplemented by two shops and ten hobby rooms.
The Bert Brecht Park is particularly eye-catching, with over 2 hectares of generous green space in the project. Car-freedom in the area should not only increase the quality of life, but also promote a new type of neighborhood. You could say that the good life in the city is being redefined here.
Innovative energy supply
Another highlight of the project is the innovative energy supply. Modern energy networks are planned that provide both heating and cooling using geothermal probes and heat pumps. The use of photovoltaic systems means that renewable electricity is also used. Underfloor heating and component activation provide additional comfort, while a carefully planned ventilation system with heat recovery increases efficiency. With a district heating connection, the project also offers future-proof solutions for the residents' energy needs.
Quality of life & community
A look at another remarkable project in Vienna shows how diverse the housing offering is. Co-housing Vienna, for example, has had a remarkable impact on community life in the city since its completion in December 2013. With 39 residential units and a focus on self-organized communities, this project offers space for sustainable, collaborative living. Residents not only enjoy individual living space, but also shared facilities such as a sauna, a shared kitchen and workshops. The concept promotes cooperation and the sharing of resources and ideas.
In today's world, when individuality is valued, this concept shows that collaborative approaches can also lead to success. Several generations and cultures come together here, which contributes to a lively neighborhood. With a construction method that almost meets passive house standards, “Co-housing Vienna” also relies on energy efficiency and innovative construction practices, such as mechanical ventilation and groundwater control elements. These features even earned the project a place in the EUmies Awards 2015, demonstrating the relevance and impact of such housing projects.
Overall, it can be said that Vienna is making progress with projects such as “Village im Third” and “Co-housing Vienna” when it comes to new housing concepts and sustainable urban development. If we take a walk through Bert Brecht Park, we could soon be excited about the fresh ideas that come to life in these neighborhoods.
