Koralmbahn Revolution: Leoben is losing its importance as a transport hub!
The Koralmbahn will begin operations on December 14, 2025, opening a new chapter in the Austrian transport infrastructure. Direct connections to Carinthia or Italy are no longer necessary, and changes in Graz or Bruck an der Mur will be necessary in the future.
New offers and improvements
In order to cushion the effects of the traffic change, ÖBB is announcing a new long-distance transport offer: the Interregio. The new connections Graz – Bruck – Leoben – Klagenfurt, Graz – Leoben – Linz and Graz – Leoben – Innsbruck will be set up with new, barrier-free vehicles that offer WiFi and space for bicycles. Connections to Vienna will become less frequent but will remain regular and relatively quick.
In this context, the Tauern Corridor continues to be of central importance for connections to Salzburg, Munich and Germany. The old routes for trips to Upper Styria, the Ennstal and Carinthia are expected to be retained.

The presentation of the new timetable is just around the corner. The new connections will be presented on September 16th in Vienna, while regional details will be presented on October 6th in Graz.
