Josefstadt: Dog owners require more space for their four -legged friends!
Josefstadt, Österreich - In the Josefstadt there are currently only three dog zones that welcome over 500 dogs in the area. According to the current figures, exactly 525 dogs lived in this district last year. This corresponds to 21.43 dogs per 1,000 inhabitants. If you take a closer look at the dog zones, they are located in the Schönbornpark, at the Hernalser Belt and in the Hamerling Park. Despite this relatively small number, there are efforts to improve the situation for the four -legged friends. The SPÖ Josefstadt brought two applications in the district council to achieve exactly that.
improvements for the dog zones
One of the applications deals with the examination of a potential expansion or better use of the dog zone in the Hamerling Park. It is important that the remaining area of the park should not be reduced. The second application focuses on the cleanliness of the dog zones by demanding shorter cleaning intervals. Both applications were approved and were accepted. This shows that there is something in the district and the representatives: take the wishes of the dog owners seriously inside.
Although the Viennese city gardens (MA 42) are currently unable to make a position on redesign plans in the Hamerling Park and there is currently no official application for expansion, there is hope for a rapid implementation of these measures. The Vienna Pereitivity Act also applies in dog zones, which means that dog owners must immediately remove their dogs' feces.

The opinions of the dog owners
Opinions among the dog owners are split: some are satisfied with the existing situation, while others see a clear need for improvement. A simple visitor to the Hernals belt clearly said that he would like more space and green in the dog zones. However, it remains unclear whether the concerns of the dog owners will actually be taken up this summer.
Overall, the current situation refers to the challenges that many urban dog owners are facing. It is to be hoped that the measures will be implemented soon to meet the needs of the dogs and their owners.
