Price increases in Vienna's pools: things will get more expensive from 2026!

A look at the upcoming changes in Vienna's pools: From January 1, 2026, pool lovers will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets. The city administration announced that admission prices will be increased by an average of 6.37 percent. The office of city councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ) has officially confirmed the price increase. The last tariff increase took place on January 1, 2024, and the new adjustment is based on the consumer price index (CPI), which has increased by more than three percent since then, it reported meinkreis.at.

The past bathing season was not ideal for the city of Vienna. With 1.74 million visitors, there were 500,000 fewer than the year before. This was due to the changeable and rainy weather, which prevented many people from swimming. Despite these declines, the city is trying to follow a social course and keep the pools attractive for families and children.

The new prices in detail

For everyone who wants to take a dip in the cool water at the municipal pools, here is an overview of the new entry prices. The following tariffs will apply from 2026:

  • Einzelkarte für Erwachsene: 8,10 Euro (statt 7,60 Euro)
  • Halbjahreskarte: 170,10 Euro (kaum 11 Euro mehr)
  • Einzelkarte für Jugendliche (15 bis 18 Jahre): 4,60 Euro (30 Cent teurer)
  • Kinder (2011 bis 2018): 2,80 Euro (statt 2,60 Euro)
  • Erwachsene ermäßigt: 6,10 Euro (statt 5,70 Euro)
  • Familienkarte (Erwachsener und Kind): 9,60 Euro (statt 9 Euro)
  • Bonuskarte 5 + 1 gratis: 48 Euro (statt 45 Euro)
  • Bonuskarte 10 + 3 gratis: 96 Euro (statt 90 Euro)

However, the city guarantees that small children up to 6 years of age will continue to have free access and that the family pools will also remain free for children between 6 and 14 years of age. These measures are intended to make it easier for families to use the pools, even if prices rise.

Criticism from the opposition

As usual, the political reaction is inevitable. The first critical voices come primarily from the ÖVP Vienna. Pool and family spokeswoman Sabine Keri expressed concerns about the city government's social responsibility. There are fears that the price increases will place additional financial pressure, particularly on less wealthy families.

The City of Vienna is trying to maintain the quality of the pools and services with these adjustments and assumes that, despite the price adjustment, many Viennese will visit the city pools again next year.Current information about admissions and developments in the Vienna baths can be found on websites such as oe24.at be tracked.
