Bus travel ban in Advent 2025: only with a special ticket to the city center!

In Vienna, the run-up to Christmas in 2025 will be very special. On the four shopping Saturdays - November 29th, December 6th, 13th and 20th - a tried and tested bus concept will be introduced that will provide many surprises. The focus is on offering residents and tourists a safe and pleasant shopping experience. But there are some important regulations that everyone should follow.

How aviation.direct reported, a general bus ban will come into force in Districts 1 and 6 to 9 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This means that buses can only access the city center with a valid entry ticket requested in advance. The aim of this measure is to minimize the burden on residents and at the same time limit private traffic.

Special rules for buses

If you want to travel to the city as a tour operator, you have to take care of one of the maximum 350 day entry tickets per Advent Saturday. These cards must be applied for and paid for online and are also limited to the respective license plate. With the entry card you can use the exit and entry points at Museumsplatz and are also entitled to a free parking space.

There are three time slots for guest pickup, which can be selected in advance. Buses without an entry ticket are obliged to use alternative entry and exit options, such as Karlsplatz or Pierre-de-Coubertin-Platz. Particular emphasis is placed on the regulations for Schönbrunn Palace, where buses are only allowed to stop in the parking lot opposite the orangery.

The diversions are also well thought out: buses from the south are directed to Praterstern, while those from the north are diverted to the Belt. Passengers there have to switch to public transport, which means shopping and travel can be planned in good time.

Advent in Vienna – an experience

More and more Viennese and visitors appreciate the festive atmosphere during Advent. The Christmas markets, the light spectacle and the decorated streets invite you to linger. Advent 2025 will also be a time full of enjoyment and joy, even if you have to adapt to the new regulations.

In this pre-Christmas period, shopping in the city is not only an experience, but can also be relaxed with a little planning. With the right hand and applying for entry tickets early, nothing stands in the way of a sociable Advent weekend in Vienna.
