There is something very special being offered in Prague's Old Town this year: On the first weekend of Advent, more precisely from December 1st to 3rd, 2025, there will be a pre-Christmas concert evening in the traditional Salvator Church instead of. This magnificent church, built over 400 years ago and resplendent in neo-Gothic style, is the ideal location for the performance of the contemporary Christmas cantata “The Bright Night”.

The cantata, composed by Ákos Banlaky from Vienna, brings together the works of well-known poets such as Joseph von Eichendorff, Andreas Gryphius and Rainer Maria Rilke. Particularly exciting: 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of Rainer Maria Rilke's birth, which gives this concert additional cultural significance. The combination of traditional melodies from the Bohemian-German-speaking area and modern, impressionistic sounds creates a magical atmosphere that will enchant listeners.

A musical experience for everyone

In addition to the Albert Schweitzer Choir from Vienna, the choir from the Salvatorkirche and an instrumental ensemble from Vienna will also be taking part in the event. The conductors Matthias Krampe from Vienna and Marie Vojáčková from Prague took over the overall management. It is an excellent opportunity to experience talented musicians from both cities and to celebrate the connection between Austrian and Czech culture.

Admission to this special concert is free, although a voluntary donation is requested Salvator Church requested. This gives everyone interested the opportunity to enjoy a piece of pre-Christmas spirit in the historical backdrop of Prague.
