Bus lines in Hietzing redesigned: Better service for passengers!

The Wiener Linien have brought a breath of fresh air into the public transport network. There are now some changes to bus lines 53A, 54A and 54B in Hietzing, which are aimed at improving accessibility in the west of Vienna. How today.at reports, the route network will now be made more modern, more efficient and clearer.

One of the most noticeable changes concerns route 53A. This will now be extended and will in future run from Hütteldorf train station via Unter St. Veit to the U4 station Ober St. Veit to the new terminus Stock im Weg. This measure ensures a direct connection to numerous residential and school locations, and the popular Hörndlwald recreation area also benefits from the new connection.

But lines 54A and 54B are not neglected either: there is a new structure for them. In the future, both lines will run in both directions via Wolfrathplatz, which ascends to the central interchange in Hietzing. The 54A provides a connection to the Hörndlwald, while the 54B only heads to the St. Veiter Tor.

Optimization of routes

The main aim of the restructuring of the bus routes is to achieve greater clarity in the routes. This means fewer changes and at the same time shorter intervals on busy routes. The previous circuits have been dissolved, resulting in clearly defined lines with clear start and end points. The aim is to offer passengers shorter routes and easier orientation.

But the bus routes are not the only project that Wiener Linien is currently pushing forward. Loud wienerlinien.at, the focus in summer 2025 will also be on the U4 and comprehensive track renewals. This work will take place between June 28th and September 1st and will have an impact on all U4 line operations.

Transfer options and construction work

During the U4 work, transfer options will be set up to tram line E4 and the rerouted line D, which runs from Nußdorf to Schottenring. In addition, numerous track work is being carried out in the city center, including on the Kärntner Ring and Universitätsring, so changes to line operations can also be expected here.

The Wiener Linien is also focusing on condensing the intervals of other lines in the vicinity of the construction sites. The U2 and U4 run every 5 minutes during the summer holidays. Passengers can therefore look forward to a well-timed connection that largely compensates for the restrictions during the construction work.

These measures are part of a larger modernization offensive, which also includes a new tram lines 12 and 27 in the fall and the extension of line 18 to the stadium next year. This shows that Wiener Linien has a good knack for making the city's public transport network future-proof.
