Blood donation saves lives: Register for the campaign in Hietzing!
A new date for everyone who wants to do a good work and save lives: A blood donation campaign will take place on August 26th at the Hietzing Clinic in Vienna. This important event is organized by the Vienna Health Association in collaboration with the Red Cross. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., all Viennese people are warmly invited to share their life energy and donate blood. The venue is easily accessible at Wolkersbergenstrasse 1, Building F.
Why this action? In Austria, a blood unit is needed every 90 seconds - that's almost 1,000 per day. This devastating statistic shows once again how urgently blood donations are needed. Because no artificial substitutes can be used for the majority of medical treatments. We therefore rely on voluntary donors to ensure supply in the clinics. You can easily reserve an appointment for the donation via the website Red Cross be made.
Safety first
Before each blood donation, the donors are thoroughly examined to ensure the safety of both donor and recipient. After the donation, it is recommended to take a short break and drink enough fluids. This helps to stabilize circulation and contributes to an invigorating feeling. By the way: Regular breaks between donations are essential – both for your own health and for optimal blood supply in the future.
There is a close connection between blood donations in Austria and the challenges that neighboring countries such as Germany also have to overcome. Here the daily need for blood donations is at the same level at around 15,000. Almost 3% of the population in Germany donate blood, with around 100,000 active blood donors dropping out every year due to age limits or health setbacks. The motto of this year's World Blood Donor Day campaign, "#missingtype", makes it clear: "It's only when it's missing that you notice it!" Therefore, it is important to create incentives to attract new donors and encourage existing ones to continue giving.
The different blood groups – A, B, AB and 0 – are crucial for intact supply channels in hospitals. Patients with tumor diseases are particularly dependent on blood transfusions; A fifth of all blood preparations are used for this purpose. For this reason, it is essential that people repeatedly agree to donate blood. Anyone who is still hesitant should know: with a single packet of blood you can save up to three lives.
Asking the public for help is important not only in times of need, but also in the long term. Regular donors are worth their weight in gold - and it doesn't hurt to have a clear conscience and a "good hand" for the health of others. Because nothing is more important than solidarity in society, and donating blood is not only good for others, but also for yourself, as you feel your own act of charity.
Take advantage of the opportunity on August 26th at the Hietzing Clinic and do your best - because your donation could make the difference!
