Social drama in Vienna: Mental health under pressure – TIW is fighting!
Things are simmering in Vienna-Hernals: The only health center run by the Association for Training, Integration & Further Education (TIW) is currently at a critical turning point. Founded in 2021, the center has quickly established itself as an important contact point for socially disadvantaged young people. The focus is on promoting mental health, and in doing so it has filled a gap in medical care in Vienna. A team of three psychologists and two educators, some of whom work part-time, look after the young clients, for whom these offers were previously free, financed by funding from a Swiss insurance group.
Over 10,000 young people have already been introduced to the topic of health promotion. What is particularly noteworthy is that a detailed psychological diagnosis was made for around 2,000 of these young people, without long waiting times. Thanks to a cooperation with the Vinzenz Group, the young people can also take advantage of medical examinations. But now worrying voices can be heard: There is a petition to preserve the service, because the financial resources may no longer be sufficient to maintain the center's operations in the future. The need for such offers is greater than ever, as the pressure is constantly increasing in today's world, when young people are confronted with a variety of challenges.
