Hernals goes green: 10,000 euros for sustainable courtyards!
Something is happening in Hernals! The city of Vienna is setting an example in inner courtyard design with the urban renewal program “WieNeu+”. The aim is to make the inner courtyards not only greener, but also more sustainable and climate-friendly. A collaboration between MA 22 – Environmental Protection and the urban renewal area management provides the impetus for numerous new projects. [my district] reports that both owners and residents have the chance to unseal their courtyards free of charge and transform them into green oases.
Funding for this initiative can reach up to 10,000 euros gross and covers a wide range of measures, such as demolition work, material disposal and soil replacement. In addition, greening measures with perennial plants and the installation of cisterns and irrigation systems are supported.
Diverse funding opportunities
For more ambitious projects, there is even the possibility of applying for up to 500,000 euros in funding, especially for innovative courtyard projects or environmentally friendly facade painting. The range of supported measures is large: unsurprisingly, the main projects available are those that deal with delaying stormwater runoff or promoting the circular economy. Planning services, such as preliminary or feasibility studies, can also be funded with up to 30,000 euros, as the Other Government Services program describes [wieneuplus].
There is a lot of interest in these funding programs because clean and green neighborhoods are important to many Viennese people. There is no denying that the green oases in the city have a positive impact on the climate and contribute to the quality of life.
Information events for those interested
For anyone who would like to take a closer look at the funding, an information event will take place on June 4th in the Kulturcafé Max at Mariengasse 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Here, future applicants have the opportunity to find out about the various options and, if necessary, to register straight away. The event, which is open to everyone, is recommended to clarify all open questions and take the appropriate steps [my district].
Another point does not go unmentioned: the applications must be submitted to the urban renewal area authority. Those interested should apply for a place early, as interest is high in Hernals and beyond. Initiatives like these ensure that urban development in Vienna not only meets today's needs, but is also able to meet future challenges, for example in the area of climate protection.
How important it is for people and institutions to work together is shown not only by the variety of funding options, but also by the underlying philosophy of the program. The idea that everyone can do their part to improve their own environment is a central aspect of urban neighborhood development [arc]. This initiative could prove to be a decisive step towards a greener and livable future.
