Vienna Airport inspires: record numbers and new dream destinations in 2025!

Last weekend, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June 2025, there was a lot of activity at Vienna Airport. Around 330,000 passengers made their way to the most beautiful holiday destinations in the high season. Austrians are hungry to travel and this is reflected not only in the impressive numbers, but also in the wide range of offers that Flughafen Wien AG has prepared for the summer. Mag. Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, praised the airport team for the smooth start to the holiday season and highlighted the optimized processes and services that make life easier for travelers. Self baggage drop-off zones have been set up to make baggage check-in quicker, and the security checkpoint team has been increased to keep waiting times down.

Destinations in Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey are particularly in demand this year, with Palma de Mallorca and Antalya at the top of the charts. Travelers will now also find improved dining options at the airport - including Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar and Jamie Oliver Foodcourt, as well as vegan options at The Lala/Veganista. The extensive shopping offering, from Vienna Duty Free to Swarovski to Leberkas-Pepi, leaves nothing to be desired. Those traveling with children can look forward to loaner strollers and playgrounds in several terminal areas.

New flight connections and destinations

The new summer flight schedule, which came into force on March 30, 2025, offers an enormous selection of destinations. With over 190 directly accessible cities worldwide and a focus on European holiday destinations as well as long-haul routes to Asia and North America, travelers are spoiled for choice. From June 2025, new direct connections to Singapore with the airline Scoot will also be added. Austrian Airlines is strengthening its presence with flights to 127 destinations, including the new destinations Lofoten (Norway) and Edinburgh (Scotland). In addition, the fleet will be increased by two new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with which the airline will resume long-haul connections to Los Angeles and Tokyo.

The low-cost airlines are also showing strong with Ryanair, which serves over 80 destinations from Vienna, including the Amalfi Coast, and Wizz Air, which includes Tuzla in Bosnia and Sibiu in Romania in its program. Condor will also head to Frankfurt from the end of March, while EasyJet returns with a daily connection between Vienna and Milan-Linate. For long-distance travelers, the program includes connections to Dubai with Emirates and daily flights to Beijing with Air China.

Current passenger numbers and expectations for the coming months

A total of 3,884,572 travelers were recorded in May 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to the previous year. At the Vienna location, passenger numbers rose to 2,900,976, an increase of 2.0%. The increase in local passengers is particularly notable, with an increase of 3.3% to 2,272,453. The figures clearly show that the airport can expect similarly high demand in the coming months.

Flughafen Wien AG is planning additional human resources and infrastructure improvements to meet increased demands and will further position itself as one of the most punctual airports in Europe. Travelers are asked to arrive early, especially due to renovation work on the A4 eastern motorway, which can sometimes result in longer journey times.
