Lightning systems in Vienna: Where speeders get caught today!
Drivers in Vienna should pay particular attention to speed limits today, November 8, 2025. The police have announced that mobile speed cameras will be in use at two locations to ensure more road safety. These radar boxes can move to different locations throughout the day, which provides an additional incentive for all road users to observe the speed limits.
The speed cameras are active in the following locations, such as news.de reported:
- Prager Straße, PLZ 1210, Floridsdorf, KG Strebersdorf: Blitzer gemeldet um 09:56 Uhr, Tempolimit 40 km/h.
- E60, PLZ 1100, Favoriten, KG Rothneusiedl: Blitzer gemeldet um 09:44 Uhr, bestätigt um 13:19 Uhr, Tempolimit 100 km/h.
Why speed cameras are important
The police in Vienna are pursuing a mobile concept in which the lightning locations often change in order to monitor accident hotspots and dangerous areas. This system is intended to help significantly increase traffic safety. The ÖAMTC adds that new radar boxes work using laser measurement and are technically indistinguishable from conventional devices. Positioned in dangerous places, they help road users drive more safely.
The measuring tolerance of the devices is also exciting: below 100 km/h the police increase the speed to 3 km/h, above 100 km/h there is a tolerance of 3 percent of the measured speed. This means that speeding doesn't always result in a fine straight away, which could benefit some drivers at times.
Radar box locations
The police rely on permanently installed radar boxes and constantly change mobile speed cameras. The well-known locations in Vienna include:
- Innerer Währinger Gürtel Höhe Einfahrt zum AKH
- Südost-Tangente (A23) Hanssonkurve Richtung Norden vor dem Verteilerkreis
- Floridsdorfer Brücke
- Kagraner Brücke/Wagramer Straße
These locations are typical of high traffic volumes and are often chosen to control traffic flow and enforce environmental speed limits. The ÖAMTC appeals to all road users to adhere to the speed limits, because ultimately everyone's safety is in their own interest.
With these measures, everything is done to make road traffic safer. Looking at speed pays off now more than ever!
