Floridsdorf indoor swimming pool shines after a 15 million euro renovation!

The Floridsdorf indoor swimming pool has been spruced up! After extensive renovation, the popular bathing facility not only shines in new splendour, but has also become “climate-fit” thanks to the latest technologies. How vienna.at reported, a variety of measures have been implemented that both increase energy efficiency and significantly improve the bathing experience of users.

What has changed? As part of the extensive renovations, a new heating system was installed that uses a water-to-water heat pump. This innovative technology uses sustainable energy from groundwater, contributing to a dramatic reduction in energy consumption, which can now be made more sustainable by up to 95 percent.

Innovative technologies for more sustainability

But that's not all: a photovoltaic system with an impressive area of 1,221 square meters and an output of 260 kWp ensures that the indoor swimming pool's electricity requirements can virtually be "generated" by itself. This combination of heat and electricity generation in conjunction with modern ventilation systems and thermal renovation makes the bathroom a showcase model in terms of climate protection.

Anyone who thinks that this is all just dry technical chatter is wrong. The renovation also offers visual highlights: the swimming pool, sauna and changing areas have been redesigned. In addition, all sanitary facilities in the sauna were completely renovated and redesigned to be gender-specific. A real upgrade for visitors!

Clear numbers and facts

The total costs for these extensive renovation measures amount to around 15 million euros. But investing in sustainable technologies pays off: energy consumption is reduced by 95 percent less district heating, 25 percent less electricity and 55 percent less water compared to the previous management. These figures show how crucial such a project is for sustainable development and how important it is to be part of the solution in the fight against climate change, as well Federal Environment Agency emphasized.

So, what's next? The first step towards the opening on October 28th has already been taken, and full operation is scheduled for November 18th. The Viennese can look forward to a new bathing experience!

Focus on heat pumps

This renovation also used modern technology aimed at minimizing dependence on fossil fuels. Heat pumps have long been very popular in new buildings and are also becoming increasingly important in existing buildings. Like that Federal Ministry of Economics highlights, the number of heat pumps installed in 2023 was around 356,000. This is seen as a sign that the switch to renewable energies in the building sector offers new opportunities.

The successful implementation of the indoor swimming pool project in Floridsdorf shows that with a good hand in technology and design, sustainable solutions are not only possible, but also realistic and attractive. And we should all make that a priority!
