Vienna will receive the magnus* Center for Sexual Health in 2026!

Something positive is happening in Vienna when it comes to sexual health: the “magnus* outpatient clinic” will open by the first quarter of 2026. This new center is operated by Aids Hilfe Wien in close cooperation with the City of Vienna and the health insurance providers (ÖGK, SVS, BVAEB). This is an important step towards improving health care for all Viennese.

The “magnus*” will offer a holistic concept that combines diagnostics, therapy and prevention. In addition, there is social work and psychosocial support, which is brought together under one roof. The medical direction is taken over by Dr. Alexander Zoufaly, and the offer will be multilingual and barrier-free, which guarantees central accessibility. A total of around 32,000 contacts should be made possible every year. City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker emphasizes that the center will be an important contact point for everyone in Vienna to promote their sexual health - without any discrimination.

Services and goals

It is particularly important that the “magnus*” also provides competent care options for uninsured people with HIV. This target group is often stigmatized and does not always have access to the necessary health resources. The project aims to provide better care for both the vulnerable population and the general public and ultimately to relieve pressure on hospitals and private practice areas.

An additional statistical competence center for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) will be established to ensure well-founded information and prevention. This will also help to intensify educational work, as ignorance about HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases remains a major problem. Regular testing and prevention via condoms are essential to reduce the spread of HIV and other STIs. The use of condoms is therefore strongly recommended, especially when having sex with unknown partners sexual-health.ch emphasized.

A role model for the future

To draw attention to the issue, the story of Magnus Hirschfeld, a pioneer in sexual health, is also honored. The name “magnus*” honors his commitment and shows that Vienna is ready to take a pioneering role in sexual health care.

The “magnus*” outpatient clinic promises to be a place where people can promote their sexual health in a self-determined manner and in a protected environment. We can't wait to see how this future-oriented project will develop and what positive effects it will have on the health of Viennese people. Information about the numerous services and offers will certainly be announced in time for the opening so that everyone who needs it can take advantage of the offers.
