Appointment bookings at MA 35: Flexibility for Viennese from third countries!
From the beginning of October 2023, Viennese people who would like to apply for a residence permit or settlement permit will have more flexibility. Thanks to an innovation at MA 35, it is now possible to book appointments at all branch offices, and no longer just at the one responsible for your own area of residence. This change makes it much easier for those affected to choose the branch that is best accessible and offers the next available appointments. As meinkreis.at reports, this measure is intended to relieve the burden on the authorities and noticeably increase the quality of service.
The MA 35 has branch offices in districts 1, 2, 13, 16 and 20. The ability to choose the branch brings a much appreciated flexibility for many, especially for those who come from third countries. However, it should be noted that the changes do not affect the departments in the 12th and 2nd districts, which are responsible for residence under Union law. Here, Integration City Councilor Bettina Emmerling explains the importance of this change for the Viennese population and emphasizes the increased flexibility.
Information on residence and settlement permits
There are different types of residence permits for applicants to consider in Austria. On the one hand, there is that Residence permit, which enables a temporary and limited stay without the intention of settling. On the other hand, the settlement permit is interesting, which entitles you to settle and pursue self-employment under certain conditions. This permit is offered in different forms, for example for artists and researchers, each of whom has limited access to the labor market.
The validity period of the settlement permit is usually twelve months. There are also special regulations available for family members that enable temporary residence. This includes spouses, registered partners and minor children who are subject to special requirements. Anyone who applies for a red-white-red card can, under certain conditions, include their own family members.

The useful sources of information, such as the hotline of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, should not be forgotten. MA 35 is also planning further improvements in the way it works in order to make services even more efficient, as department head Nicole Del Carmen Garfias informs. For everyone who lives in Vienna or would like to choose the city as a new beginning, this opens up new possibilities for a more uncomplicated and dynamic route into the local bureaucracy.
