Speeding alarm in Favoriten: Citizens' meeting about parking chaos!
Filmteichstrasse in Favoriten has been a popular meeting place for the roadrunner scene for some time. But at night the quiet part of the city is always kept awake by drifting, honking and party noise. This is not only a nuisance for residents and restaurateurs, but also endangers safety in the residential area. The pressure on the city administration to finally take action has increased.
In order to curb night-time noise and dangerous driving in the area, a night-time stopping and parking ban from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. was introduced in the summer of 2025. This decision was made in the hope of combating the problem of disturbed sleep at night. Attempts had previously been made to counteract speeding incidents by closing off parking spaces and using concrete barriers. An additional means, the so-called Stuttgart thresholds, were introduced - these plastic barrier lines made of prefabricated concrete are intended to reduce the speed of vehicles.
But the solution doesn't seem to be that simple. Despite the new regulations, residents and restaurants continue to have difficulty finding parking spaces. Parking spaces are completely unavailable at night, which makes the situation even more difficult for residents. There is great dissatisfaction with these measures.
Citizens' meeting on the situation on Filmteichstrasse
In order to make citizens' concerns heard, a citizens' meeting will take place on Monday, November 3rd in the ballroom of the Vienna University Campus. This meeting was initiated by the Freedom Party by a minority resolution in the district parliament. Here, citizens have the opportunity to find out about the current situation and to address their questions directly to those responsible.
The topic of “lawns in residential areas” is not only hotly debated in Favoriten. According to experts, speeders pose a significant safety risk, especially in 30 zones and play streets. In many cases, however, personal dialogue with speeders remains fruitless. Residents have the opportunity to report a crime to the police if there is a traffic hazard. Certain information is required for the report, including the person making the report, the street, time and the speeder's license plate number.
The issue of traffic safety and the measures to combat lawns are not only important locally, but also nationally. Citizens are called upon to take action. Whether by applying to the local parliament to calm traffic or by distributing leaflets to draw attention to the problem - every measure counts. Of course, residents should act carefully and not put themselves in dangerous situations in order to avoid legal consequences.
The citizens' meeting could be the first step in the right direction to find solutions together and transform Filmteichstrasse into a quiet place to live again. [Kurier] reports that the need for this meeting becomes clear, while [ORF] continues to deepen the information situation. With the helpful tips from [bus fine catalog], affected residents can take active action against the speeders and raise their concerns.
