Apprentices restore vintage tractors for social purposes!
Today the apprentices at Österreichische Postbus AG completed an impressive project: They restored a Steyr tractor from 1952 and donated it to this good cause “Light in the Dark”. This vintage car is now in the foyer of the ÖBB headquarters at Vienna Central Station and is attracting attention. How meinkreis.at reports, 19 automotive technicians from Tyrol and Vorarlberg invested around 600 hours in the restoration. Not only were all parts dismantled and prepared, but the tractor was also given the final touches.
The symbolic unveiling took place recently, at which Postbus board member Alfred Loidl and “Licht ins Dunkel” managing director Mario Thaler were present. In the last four years, similar projects have already contributed to a magnificent sum of 126,000 euros, which flows into social and disability projects as well as support for “families in need”.
A joint project with added value
But what is behind this initiative? Through this project, ÖBB Postbus not only promotes practical relevance, teamwork and innovation in apprentice training, but also the development of technical skills. How baublatt.at informed, the apprentices took on responsibility under the guidance of experienced trainers and found creative solutions to technical challenges.
The restored Steyr tractor is already the fourth edition of the apprentice project. Previously, a Puch Schammerl, a VW Beetle and a BMW Isetta were successfully refurbished. The sustainability and versatility of technical training is impressively demonstrated here. The tractor auction begins on Friday, November 14th and will last approximately one month. All proceeds from this auction go back to social projects.
A look into the future
The next classic car is to be restored next year, with apprentices from Lower Austria taking part in the project. The commitment of the apprentices and the support from ÖBB Postbus show how responsible and creative today's youth are - a positive sign for the future.
