Discover the new Supergrätzl: city walk in Favoriten!
A city walk with lots of greenery, fresh air and new insights will soon be on the agenda. On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the GB* (Area Management for Urban Renewal) invites you to a special tour of the New Landgut and the Supergrätzl in Favoriten from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The meeting point is in front of the Neues Landgut library, Laxenburger Straße 4/1A, 1100 Vienna.
City planner Roland Krebs from the superwien office will give a live, on-site insight into the impressive development of the New Estate. Anyone interested has the opportunity to stroll through the first Supergrätzl in Vienna and learn more about the positive changes in the neighborhood. This initiative not only aims to improve the quality of life, but also aims to increase traffic safety and make the environment more climate-friendly.
What is a Supergrätzl?
The city of Vienna has created the first Supergrätzl for Favoriten based on models from Barcelona and Berlin. This concept creates spaces without through traffic, but with lots of greenery and space for people. The new routes are designed so that cars can only drive up to houses and garages, while they are directed at intersections on main roads. This not only pleases pedestrians and cyclists, but also ensures a significant reduction in noise.
A total of over 60 trees and 94 new green spaces will be created along these new streets. Particularly noteworthy is the large pedestrian zone around the Herzgasse middle school, which offers a safe environment for school children, equipped with seating, communal beds and even water features. These measures not only promote the quality of life, but also increase the residents' identification with their neighborhood.
Positive impact on daily life
The Supergrätzl aims to meet the challenges of climate change and the needs of a growing urban population. The new open spaces create space for relaxation, social interactions and offer opportunities for leisure activities. Children and older people in particular benefit from the improved traffic safety and the green areas, which provide cooling and a pleasant living environment.
Construction work for the Supergrätzl is in full swing, with completion planned for autumn 2025. The first construction phase was successfully completed at the end of 2023, while the second phase will last until autumn 2025. The positive feedback from residents during the pilot phase in 2022 showed that the measures met with broad approval.
Finally, enjoy
After the informative tour, the day will end with a cozy coffee break with tea and cake at the GB* district office at Quellenstrasse 149. Registration is required to take part in the event. This can be done online, by email sued@gbstern.at or by telephone on +43 1 602 31 38.
The city walk through the Neue Landgut and the Supergrätzl takes the opportunity to celebrate the development of the city and at the same time actively involve the residents in the design process. Because only together can we make Grätzl a place worth living in.
