The ISV Tigers Stegersbach had to bury their dream of the quarter-finals on the last match day of the basic round of the inline tomcat hockey men's Bundesliga. This decision came during exciting matches in Vienna, where the Tigers had to play against both Torpedo Donaustadt and the Vienna 95ers. But hopes of a successful end to the season faded after two painful defeats – 4:14 and 7:10.
In the first game against Torpedo Donaustadt, the Tigers were unable to convince from the start. After a quick 4-0 deficit in the first third, the pressure on their offensive line grew. Hermann scored the first goal and reduced the score to 1:5, but the Donaustadt team's response was immediate. Marco Kneissl and Donat Szalai were able to briefly reduce the deficit to 3:9, but the game ended with a clear 4:14. Things didn't go well in the second game against the Vienna 95ers either. After a 3-0 deficit, Stegersbach pushed for a connection. Hermann managed to reduce the score to 1:3, but the team didn't get enough momentum. With a score of 1:5 at the second break, the train seemed to have already left. Despite fighting performances in the final third, when Rudolf Gradinger and Adam Janisch scored goals, the Tigers could no longer avert defeat. The final score was 7:10.
The season ends for the Tigers with two avoidable defeats. But not everything is lost, because the team can gain valuable experience for the future from these encounters. Despite missing the quarter-finals, there are positive approaches that can be built on.
