Groundbreaking ceremony for Albert Schultz Park: Green heart for Vienna!

On October 27, 2025, the time had come: the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Albert Schultz Park in the Danube city was ceremoniously carried out. With a total area of 22,218 m², the park will soon be a green recreational space for all Viennese. “We want to create attractive green spaces that promote social interaction,” explained Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky at the opening. The new park has some exciting features to offer that will be of great interest to both younger and older city residents.

The concept includes the cultivation of 252 new trees and the installation of 11 pergolas, spread over a total of 223 m². In addition, a large lawn area of 12,052 m² is provided for various activities. A 65 m² water feature – equipped with various jets and a mud table – ensures fun and games. To accommodate visitors' drinking needs, there will also be four drinking fountains in the park.

Green oases for the urban climate

The new park is not only a place for recreation, but also contributes to improving the city's microclimate. Studies show that urban trees can contribute significantly to protection against extreme weather and improve air quality. According to researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), green spaces are essential for quality of life. Increasing the number of trees by at least 30 percent can drastically reduce the number of extreme heat hours in the city and also reduce annual water runoff ( KIT ).

In the future, Albert Schultz Park will not only offer a newly designed space for leisure activities, but will also make a significant contribution to increasing biodiversity in Vienna. 1,315 m² of perennial and grass beds will be created in the park to promote habitat for various animal species. Such measures are fundamental to mitigating the negative effects of climate change.

A place for everyone

The main goal of park design is to create a welcoming space for the entire population. “Shaded areas and room for movement are of great importance,” notes Czernohorszky, and this maxim will certainly be realized in the new Albert Schultz Park. The various play and fitness options as well as the numerous seating and lounge areas invite you to leave everyday life behind and relax in the countryside.

The Albert Schultz Park is proof that Vienna not only creates attractive leisure activities, but also actively works to improve the city's climate and the quality of life of its citizens. A step that is a win for both residents and the environment!
