New Süßenbrunner Platz: Green heart for Donaustadt is created!
The Donaustadt is progressing: the removal measures have finally started on Süßenbrunner Platz. The previous parking lot behind the Catholic Church is transformed into a green oasis, which is to be completed by the end of November this year. District head Ernst Nevrivy (SPÖ) emphasizes that the new place is not only a profit for the residents, but should also act as a central meeting point for young and old. A real ray of hope in urban renewal!
The work includes about 2,000 square meters that are sealed to make room for green areas. With a total of 24 newly planted trees and 1,300 square meters of perennial beds and lawns, the area will invite you to relax and linger. Nevrivy emphasizes that space will also offer space for May and Christmas trees, which strengthens the sense of community and significantly increases the quality of stay. It is already evident that the project is added value for the population.
a place for the neighborhood
The newly designed area will not only offer more nature, but also create shady seating. Five pergolas with ranking plants are installed to make the outdoor stay even more pleasant. Two new play equipment is planned for the little visitors, which invite you to romp and play. In addition, a water feature is built in the middle of the square, which is reminiscent of the historic horse swim and ensures a welcome refreshment.
sustainability and climate protection
With this redesign, Vienna actively contributes to improving urban climate adjustment. The green areas and trees will help regulate the temperature in the area and to improve the city climate. According to the project, 344 projects have been realized in Vienna since the beginning of the legislative period, which also strive for sustainable urban development. These include planting 3,316 trees and the creation of 2,745 seating.Overall, the Süßenbrunner Platz becomes an inviting and lively place, which will be estimated by the residents and visitors alike. Completion is planned for the end of November 2025 - another example of the fact that Vienna also attaches great importance to quality of life and environmental awareness in the Donaustadt.
