Gym escalation: Dispute over sink ends in bloodbath!

A tough conflict in a gym in the Danube city causes excitement. On Wednesday afternoon, a fight over a sink escalated when a 17-year-old blocked it for too long. A 29-year-old man who observed the situation admonished the teenager, which led to an initial argument. Later, around 5 p.m., there was another argument between the two, supported by a friend of the same age. The verbal arguments quickly escalated into a physical altercation in which all three involved were injured. The rescue team had to go out to care for the two young people on site. The 29-year-old, who initially provoked the argument, appeared again in front of the gym a short time later and handed the alarmed police officers a blank pistol wrapped in a T-shirt. He stated that he wanted to threaten the young people with the weapon. The weapon was seized while the man showed signs of mental distress and was taken to hospital under the Commitment Act. The police have started an investigation into this incident.

Blank firing pistols and their use are not new in Vienna. In another incident in Floridsdorf on Sunday morning, the police were alerted to an 18-year-old screaming for help. Two 18-year-old women and a 23-year-old man were involved. The argument arose because the man wanted the two women to leave his apartment. When they refused, he is said to have threatened one of the women with a blank gun. This situation also ended in a scuffle, and all three involved suffered head injuries and hematomas. Ultimately the police had to intervene here too. During a search of the apartment, the officers not only found a blank pistol, but also drugs and cash. The man was eventually arrested, while the women were also charged with assault.

Violence and legal consequences

The incidents shed light on the issue of violence and bodily harm in Vienna. According to the Austrian Criminal Code (§ 83 StGB), bodily harm is considered an intentional crime. This includes not only physical injuries, but also psychological suffering, which can have serious consequences. This could also be used in the two cases described, as everyone involved sustained injuries. An intentional act means that the perpetrators seriously consider the possibility of harm. The two most recent incidents involve assaults committed against both young people and the elderly, potentially complicating the investigation and legal consequences.

The clashes show that tensions can quickly escalate in public facilities such as gyms or apartments. The use of blank pistols in particular illustrates the danger that such conflicts can pose. It remains to be seen what the legal consequences will be in both cases. The police are continuing to investigate to clarify the exact circumstances and take appropriate action.
