Young Rapid athletes crown the autumn round with a clear home win!
The Rapid Women had a brilliant autumn in the Vienna Women's State League. They ended the autumn round with a clear home win and thus secured the stage for further success. On October 27, 2025, the young Rapid players triumphed 3-0 over their opponents, which visibly pleased coach Lluis Baro il llacer. After nine games they are at the top of the table with an impressive 24 points.
The game was initially bumpy; the first few minutes were characterized by a lack of flow. But Chiara Sieberer made it 1-0 in the 25th minute after a clever corner, which put the team on the right track. Halftime brought a few changes: Lea Bodzenta came on for Marie Steindl and Teo Nikolic replaced Natascha Wurm. In the second half, the team showed an improved, but still improving performance.
An unexpected success
There was also a structural change in the 63rd minute when Lana Khalaf increased the score to 2-0. Further changes brought a breath of fresh air to the team in the 78th minute when Laura Grosssteiner and Lena Koller came into the game. In the 86th minute, Leonie Zöchling received a yellow card, but her performance did not detract from the overall impression. Ultimately, Flora Zimmermann completed the deserved victory with a 3-0 score in stoppage time. Lluis Baro il llacer expressed his satisfaction with the standings and the development of his players, with the leadership position being valued as an unexpected success.
The team has now achieved its goal of being in the top third of the table. The coach's focus is on hard work and the development of young talent in order to optimally prepare the players for the next challenge - the 2nd Bundesliga.
Promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga
This success is no coincidence: women's football in Austria has gained momentum in recent years. The women's football league system in Austria currently includes 236 teams in 25 leagues. The top division, the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga, is the goal of many teams. Below the Bundesliga there is the 2nd league, whose champions are promoted to the highest division. Next June, the Rapid women will even have the opportunity to gain promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga via relegation by competing against teams from Lower Austria and Burgenland.
The Rapid women have not only taken another step towards success, but could soon also triumph at higher levels. It remains to be seen whether they can continue to perform so well and delight their fan group in the stadium with great games.
