Champions in Döbling: Business Awards honor local heroes and accessibility!
A rainy but celebratory mood prevailed over Döbling when this year's Business Awards were presented. In his speech, district leader Daniel Resch emphasized the importance of good local supplies. “It makes a decisive contribution to the quality of living in Döbling,” he emphasized. A central point of his speech was the preservation of traditional wine taverns and the support of shopping streets. This shows how local commitment contributes to a lively neighborhood that is of great importance to the residents.
The Medical Awards for outstanding medical services in the district were also presented as part of the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Walter Klepetko received an important award for his work at the Radetzky Villa, where he specialized in surgical treatment of lung and esophageal tumors. This was presented by Eva Kurzbauer. The SeneCura residence at Obersteinergasse 18, represented by Claudia Pulay and Manuele Kahry, was also recognized for its exemplary care. Not to forget the Nobel Clinic Rudolfinerhaus, which was honored for its excellent nursing school and health insurance contracts. The award was accepted by Markus Brodnik and Prim. Iris Camelli-Steingruber.
A new trend: barrier-free Vienna
A particularly innovative award was presented for the first time this year: the Accessibility Award. The Q19 shopping world, which makes intensive efforts to ensure accessibility, was honored. This award is part of the initiatives that Vienna has taken in recent years to enable people with disabilities and older people to lead a self-determined life. The European Commission's Access City Award, which aims to honor cities for their accessibility efforts, has nominated Vienna for its comprehensive measures to improve accessibility. This includes barrier-free trams, buses and new construction projects that rely on inclusive infrastructure so that all residents can actively participate in social life.
In addition, cities such as Nuremberg and Vienna are in the final for 2024. While Vienna scores with innovative transport solutions and cultural offerings, Nuremberg has developed a remarkable system of bus stops for blind people. The focus on accessibility shows that this is not just a “nice to have”, but a fundamental human right that benefits everyone and also brings economic benefits.

In summary, it is clear that in Döbling not only the economic performance is recognized, but also the progress in accessibility, which enables all city residents to take part in an active and self-determined life. This paves the way to a more inclusive city that not only cares about its people, but also thinks forward.
