Subway chaos in Vienna: U6 and U4 with new restrictions from November!

Vienna subway users will have to prepare for some restrictions in the coming days. As the The press reported, the U6 is currently in use in two sections between Jägerstrasse and Spittelau. Since Monday, trains have only been running between Siebenhirten and Spittelau and between Jägerstraße and Floridsdorf. The reason for this restriction is track construction work between Spittelau and Jägerstrasse, which will last until November 2nd.

In addition, the U4 will also be affected by a new restriction from November 3rd. The Landstrasse station is being renovated, meaning that trains towards Heiligenstadt will stop there again, while journeys to Hütteldorf will be cancelled. This work will last until December 4th. Line 49 will also only run between Volkstheater and Baumgarten until November 7th, due to track renewals in the Hütteldorf/Bujattigasse area.

Situation at the Badner Bahn

The Badner Bahn is also restricted and is only offering reduced operations until November 2nd. There are currently no connections between the Vienna Opera and Inzersdorf Lokalbahn or between Tribuswinkel-Josefsthal and Pfaffstätten Rennplatz.

The work on the tracks is necessary to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Many Viennese seem to be aware of the restrictions, but there can be increased crowds, especially during the autumn holidays, especially at peak times.

The criticism and the reactions

The new measures, in particular the renovation of the Landstrasse station, were not met without controversy. Some residents have expressed concerns about the length of time the work will take and the additional travel time. “It is important that these updates happen, but the inconvenience could be better communicated,” said a commuter at the station.

Last but not least, the situation also affects the Badner Bahn, which continues to struggle with problems. The recurring construction work seems to be a constant issue with public transport in Vienna.

Regardless of whether you take the subway or the Badner Bahn, the motto for the coming weeks is: With patience and a little more travel time, you can get through the city better.
