Döbling Pumpkin Festival delights 5,000 fans – Vikings make it to the final!

October 27, 2025 was a very special day in Döbling, because the annual pumpkin festival “Am Himmel” attracted numerous visitors. Despite the cool temperatures, the atmosphere was great, while the guests were thrilled by the colorful stands and the diverse culinary offerings. A real highlight of the festival was the creative presentation of the different types of pumpkin, which delighted the visitors' eyes in many different shapes and colors. There really was a lot of attention to detail.

At the same time as the pumpkin festival, there was another reason to celebrate: the Vienna Vikings managed to reach the final of the European League of Football (ELF) in front of over 5,000 passionate fans. Their opponent in the semi-finals, the Nordic Storm from Denmark, was defeated with an impressive performance. This will be the Vikings' second consecutive appearance in the finals - overall, it will be their third time competing for the title.

An exciting football year

The journey to this point began for the Vienna Vikings in 2022, when they completed their debut season in the European League of Football and were able to win the championship title after a thrilling final against Hamburg. The 2023 season now awaits them with a challenge, as the boys from Vienna play in the Eastern Conference, where they will face strong competitors such as the Berlin Thunder, who are considered the strongest rivals for the title. Head coach Chris Calaycay is optimistic and is already looking forward to the exciting games in the Generali Arena and the Hohe Warte.

The regular season will continue to be 12 games spread over 14 weeks next season. Each team will play both home and away games, which will provide plenty of excitement.

Home venue and events

Last season the Vikings remained undefeated at home, which further increases the anticipation for the upcoming matches. The team already has numerous announcements about new additions and contract extensions in the pipeline. Fans can also look forward to the Holidays Special, which included enjoying six home games and participation in an exclusive fan event, not to mention new original jerseys and fan goodies.

The 2024 pre-season will soon enter the next round, starting with a spectacular opening game on May 25th. The Vikings are determined to defend their title and are ready to start the new season.

Regardless of football or festive pumpkins – Viennese autumn offers something for everyone. And so August 30, 2025, the date of the ELF final, is already eagerly awaited. Viennese and football fans can look forward to an unforgettable spectacle that will also reflect the magical charm of the city.
