Funding for housing: WieNeu+ extended until 2027 in Brigittenau!

Great news for the Brigittenau and Leopoldstadt districts: The WieNeu+ urban renewal program has been extended until the end of 2027. This means that funds will continue to be available for construction and renovation projects until December 31, 2027. As has been the case since its launch in January 2023, the program aims to develop innovative technical and social solutions in collaboration with residents, property owners, local businesses and research. MyDistrict reports that comprehensive renovation potential is being examined for the properties in the newly defined “Grätzl 20+2” program area.

The Grätzl 20+2 extends over parts of the 20th district as well as the Volkert and Allied quarters in Leopoldstadt up to the Danube Canal and Stromstrasse. The program not only offers financial support for renovations, but also includes information events for owners about alternative forms of heating and energy saving options. The aim here is to achieve a real change towards a climate- and future-fit cityscape, which is supported by the program and the promotion of affordable, climate-friendly housing.

Funding and application

The funding amount of up to 500,000 euros for measures on existing buildings offers a real incentive for renovations. For natural persons there is a funding quota of 60 percent, with a maximum amount of 100,000 euros. Preparatory planning, such as preliminary or feasibility analyses, are also funded and can bring in up to 30,000 euros. An advisory board that meets several times a year decides whether these projects are eligible for funding. Since the applications can be submitted online, access is available to all interested parties. If you have any questions, please contact the WieNeu+ team on 01 4000 25107 or by email at wieneuplus@ma25.wien.gv.at.

An important step towards sustainable urban development is certainly the support of cities and municipalities by the federal government. BMWSB highlights the need for inner cities and district centers in particular to be adapted to new challenges, such as demographic change and climate protection. Securing the urban development infrastructure remains a long-term task that must be approached differently from region to region.

Overall, it shows that the WieNeu+ program can offer real added value for the Brigittenau and Leopoldstadt districts. Through targeted funding and community engagement, not only living space but also the quality of life in these districts is increased. Yes, things are growing together here and the future looks promising!
