Military commemoration in St. Veit: Now on October 31st!

A significant change to the events calendar is imminent in St. Veit. The military commemoration ceremony, which is traditionally celebrated on All Souls' Day, has been brought forward this year. The memorial service will be held at the military cemetery in St. Veit on October 31, 2025 at 4 p.m. This is the first time that the date does not take place together with the blessing of the graves on All Saints' Day, which represents a noticeable change for many citizens.

The reason for bringing the celebration forward are organizational issues that made it necessary to take this step. Representatives of the Carinthian military command, the Carinthian military band and various associations, including the Austrian Comradeship Association and the Carinthian War Victims Association, will take part in the event. The municipality of St. Veit and the Carinthia Military Command cordially invite all citizens to take part in this important commemoration.

Extended celebrations

The subsequent All Souls' Day celebration, which will take place on November 1st at 1 p.m. in front of the cemetery hall, is particularly striking. The memorial event will therefore be a special highlight in the city's culture of remembrance.

The Maria Saal choir brings another festive note with its 10th anniversary. On October 19, 2025 at 5 p.m. there will be a concert in Maria Saaler Cathedral that is intended to put the citizens of St. Veit in a festive mood.

Remembering the soldiers

Parallel to the celebrations in St. Veit, soldiers and civilian members of the armed forces are remembered throughout Germany. A few days after the memorial service, further events will follow. On November 2, 2019, the Armed Forces Memorial was inaugurated in the Hall of Honor of the Heroes Monument. It serves to commemorate the commitments for democracy, peace, security and human rights. Wreaths are repeatedly laid at places such as the Federal Army Memorial at the Outer Castle Gate to honor the service of the soldiers.

The military commemoration event in St. Veit is therefore not only an act of remembrance, but also an opportunity for the community to stand together and pay respect to those who fought for security and peace in our country. Bringing the celebration forward shows that there is always an effort to keep traditions alive and to remember the dead.
