Thanksgiving in St. Stefan: gratitude and conviviality combined!

On the last Sunday in September, the parish of St. Stefan am Krappfeld celebrated a happy Thanksgiving festival that brought people together and focused on gratitude for the bountiful harvest. Pastor John Opara led the service and in his sermon emphasized the importance of being grateful and doing something good for those in need. The festively decorated church was the perfect setting to bless the harvest crown and celebrate together. The celebration was musically accompanied by the men's choir “Geselligkeit” Meiselding under the direction of Gabriel Kogler, who created a wonderful atmosphere with his vocal performances, like meinbezirk.at reported.

The ceremony ended in the rectory garden, where parish council chairman Peter Schmied warmly thanked the helpers and invited the guests to eat and drink. It was a convivial afternoon that strengthened the sense of community. Professionals and students worked together to prepare the festival, which once again shows how strong the solidarity in the community is.

Thanksgiving and its roots

But what actually makes Thanksgiving? Unlike American Thanksgiving, which is associated with a large feast and the Pilgrim Fathers, European Thanksgiving has deeper roots in Christian faith and gratitude for the harvest. Archdiocese of Cologne deals in detail with the history and meaning of this traditional festival, which is often celebrated in the golden autumn months.

Thanksgiving is not only a religious tradition, but also a way to bring people together and strengthen community. The focus is on sharing food and joy, which was impressively implemented in the garden of the rectory: the guests enjoyed regional specialties in a convivial atmosphere.
