Wien Energie starts construction of 4 mega charging parks for electric cars!

The expansion of the charging infrastructure in Vienna is steadily gaining momentum. Vienna Energy has announced that it will build four new fast-charging parks for electric cars. These charging parks are not only intended to complement existing fast charging stations on the Währinger Belt and Margaretengurtel, but also significantly increase the range for electric vehicles. With a charging capacity of up to 400 kilowatts, it will be possible to charge electric cars for a distance of 300 kilometers in just 15 minutes.

The project includes locations in the districts of Landstrasse, Simmering, Liesing and in the north of Vienna. The charging park on Erdberger Ländle and the one on Simmeringer Hauptstrasse will each be equipped with eight charging points, while six charging points will be built on Brunner Strasse in Liesing. The largest charging park in the north of the city will even include ten charging points. The first of these charging parks is scheduled to go into operation in the summer of 2025, with full completion in the same year.

Growth of charging infrastructure

Overall plans Vienna Energy the construction of 900 new charging points for 2025, after over 600 new charging points were already created in 2024. More than 1.2 million charging processes were recorded - a pleasing increase of over 33 percent compared to the previous year. The fast-charging park on Margaretengurtel was particularly popular, recording over 33,000 charging processes. The City of Vienna has already confirmed 200 locations for the new charging points for 2025.

The increasing use of electric cars is obvious. With over 28 million kilowatt hours of green electricity provided in 2024, around 45,000 trips from Vienna to Paris and back could be made possible. Studies show that a comprehensive and well-developed charging infrastructure is crucial for the acceptance of electric vehicles. Over two thirds of drivers said that inadequate charging options were a barrier to buying an electric car.

The future is electric

The city of Vienna has the densest charging network in Austria with more than 2,200 publicly accessible charging points. In central areas such as Morzinplatz, Siebensterngasse and Amerlingstrasse, charging occurs particularly frequently on weekdays - almost 40 percent more often than on weekends. In order to meet ever-increasing demands, expanding fast chargers and improving charging performance is essential.

The latest developments show that Vienna is on the right track to further advance electromobility and make life easier for drivers. With the increasing number of charging stations, more and more people will discover and use the advantages of electric cars - there is definitely something to be said!
